About us
Inter Mediate is an independent peacemaking organisation working discreetly at the highest political levels to support complex negotiations and conflict resolution.
Inter Mediate’s founder, Jonathan Powell (currently the UK National Security Advisor), led British negotiations on Northern Ireland while serving for 14 years as UK Prime Minister Tony Blair’s Chief of Staff. He was a key architect of the Good Friday Agreement, which continues to inspire peace processes worldwide. Jonathan established Inter Mediate in 2011 to help other national political leaders and armed groups reach negotiated settlements in some of the world’s toughest settings.
Since then, Inter Mediate has played a central role in three major peace agreements: in Colombia to help President Santos secure his Nobel Prize-winning accord with the FARC, in Mozambique to help President Nyusi demobilise RENAMO after decades, and in Spain to end ETA’s campaign of violence. These agreements have saved thousands of lives and eased humanitarian suffering for many more.
As an independent organisation, Inter Mediate operates impartially in complex, high-risk conflicts around the world. Our team works directly with senior decision-makers and world-leading experts on conflict resolution to help navigate the political challenges of peacemaking. We act as trusted critical partners — testing approaches, shaping strategies, and supporting the design of sustainable security frameworks. Our interlocutors trust us to act with total discretion, to understand their core political challenges, and to bring them creative solutions.
